When you’re the mom to three kids ages almost 7, almost 5, and 2 1/2 – time is of the essence – especially in the morning. It doesn’t actually matter if you have 0 kids or 10 kids, time is always of the essence. Hence the reason I am always trying to find time saving techniques!
On school days my mornings usually go like this –
7:00 – Wake the kids, get them dressed, brush their teeth, break up an argument, re-wake the still sleeping child, brush hair, put in ponytails, re-do ponytails because they don’t look good the first time, come downstairs, eat breakfast, spill on shirt, change shirt, get socks because no one ever has socks, put on shoes, scratch that, find shoes in the basement or behind a couch, put on shoes, pack homework.
8:00 -walk kids to school…sigh of relief.
Repeat at 5:00 pm (just end with bedtime!)
So…I’m pretty sure most parents will agree that mornings can be stressful and they don’t aways begin the day the way you’d like it to start. So when it comes to my cooking, I am constantly looking for something I can make ahead, prepare while the kids are at school or grab from the freezer. Breakfast can be tricky. So my interest in time has come at the same time as my new found obsession with jam/ soup jars.
On a Sunday night – I make 5 or 6 or 7 and stick them in the fridge. Grab them on the go or just quick give to the kids in addition to their morning cereal. I use greek yogurt which is full of protein and calcium, some frozen fruit without added sugar, a dollop of honey and a scoop of granola. It’s easy, it’s quick and it gets the day off to the kind of start I like!!
Jam Jar Morning Parfaits
You will need jam jars or other containers that have lids and make for easy storage.
This is more of an idea/ inspiration then an actual recipe! Adjust as you see fit!
In each jar –
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/4 frozen fruit (look for brands that don’t have a lot of added sugar)
1 tsp. honey
1 tbsp. granola
1. Add the yogurt and work your way to the top. You will have a nice snack or breakfast and they keep for a few days! If you really like it extra crunchy – add the granola right before serving or the morning you are serving the parfait.
